Holders, North Tipp lost their crown when they were defeated by a stronger South Tipp side in the semi-final of the Roger Ryan Cup played at Toomevara last Saturday. The South were fully deserving of their win and led 1-2 to 0-3 at half time with Michael Hogan's goal proving decisive. Liam McCutcheon Darragh Peters from a sixty five and Shane Hennessey were North scorers in that period. Within three minutes of the restart, both Dan Cooke and Dean Fitzgerald had extended the South lead. But North came forward with three quick points through Hennessey from a free followed by Darragh Carey from play with Hennessey adding a 65. North Tipp pressed ahead with Darragh Peters, Liam McCutcheson and Cormac Keating working hard. Shane Hennessey, Alan Tynan and Gary Ryan tried desperately for a goal but the south defence were very solid. Instead, South Tipp took the game to a new level. Dean Fitzgerald pointed a free and within the next two minutes they had opened up a four-point lead after the excellent Ross peters and David Roberts scored. Wing back, Kevin Kehoe came fore to extend his teams lead and they finished on top with Peters putting the icing on the cake with a very good point.
