History

Brief History

Ballinahinch GAA Club was founded in 1886, two years after the founding of the GAA at Thurles. While the founding of the GAA at Ballinahinch (Baile na hInse - Town of the river/meadow) is dated 1886, there is strong evidence that the game of hurling was played and a club existed at Killoscully from 1884 at least, the same year that the GAA was founded at Thurles.

In the beginning the club was renowned as a great football team, but being in Tipperary hurling became very important and the club have kept the two games going and have enjoyed enormous success (see Roll of Honour below), particularly in the last twenty-five years since 1980 when we won our first County Junior Hurling title and north hurling and football titles.

A full history of the club was written and published in 2006 by John Ryan (J), and can be purchased by contacting any officer in the club.

- In 2010 we won our first ever North Intermediate Football title, while also our Minor Football team brought home the County 'C' title.

- 2007 we won the County Minor Title for the first time in the club history and won the North Junior Football title last won in 1980.

2005 winning our first Intermediate Hurling title, by claiming the County League title.

2002 was one of the most successful years in the club history when we were awarded the title of North Club of the Year. The major reason for this honour was due to efforts on the playing field. We won both North and County Junior Hurling ‘A’ and North and County Junior Football ‘B’ titles, also winning the U21 ‘B’ North Hurling and narrowly lost out in the County Final, after a replay
