Young Gaels looking forward to county title

Newport young Gaels, the U14s have experienced the highs and lows of sport in the space of a few days over the past week.

And there are more challenges to come as they prepare for a County Semi

Final meeting early in May looking forward to continued success.

However not all outings result in triumph and despite their best efforts in a marathon challenge which went to a playoff with a succession of 65s to divide the inseparable sides after normal time plus extra time, success slipped away on Tuesday night.

They had entertained Roscrea in a Feile hurling replay and what a crackerthis turned out to be. The sides finished level once again at normal full time on a scoreline of 2-5 to 3-2. Extra time failed to separate the sides with Newport scoring six points to Roscrea's two goals to leave

the scoreline 2-11 to 5-2. Each side were than given three 65s to take and Roscrea emerged victorious from this on a 1-0 scoreline much to the disappointment of the local lads and their supporters.   However they recovered from this setback on Thursday night in Kilcoleman, when they comprehensively beat Inane Rovers in the North Peil final. Afterwards the cup was presented to team captain Kealan Floyd by the North Bord Chairman Mike Flynn. They now go on to meet Clonmel Commercials in the County Semi Final on May 5 with the County Final also scheduled for the same day.
