Tipperary School's Shield Final

St Mary's Secondary School, Newport first year students got off to a perfect start to their season when they won the Tipperary School's Shield at Thurles on Thursday of last week.
Their opponents in the final were Presentation, Ballingarry and the final score was Newport 3-4 to Ballingarry 3-1.
The Newport side had accounted for Nenagh V.S, Thurles C.B.S., and Colaiste Mhuire, Thurles on their way to the final.
The final against Ballingarry was a big step up from previous games as Ballingarry were favourites to win the final. Early goals from Shaun Belfry, Paddy Carey, and Aidan Quigley settled the team, setting a challenge to Ballingarry, which they were never able to get to grips with.
Other players to give good performances in this match were Jake Shanahan, Corrie Mooney, Sean Moloney, Cathal Floyd, Jack Delahunty and Cillian Byrnes.
