Junior: Well done to the Junior 'C' hurling team who defeated Portroe last Saturday evening in Newport to claim the North League title. Working hard in the first half we went in leading at half-time 0-10 to 0-05 having played against the wind. Portroe came back very strongly in the second half with our defence and goalkeeper holding out all threats on goals, the forwards took their opportunities at the other end to bring us to victory on a final score of 1-21 to 0-12. Congratulations to all the panel and mentors who put in a huge effort since the start of the year to win this title.

Feile: Congratulations to Newport/Ballinahinch camogie team that won the All-Ireland U14 Feile title last weekend in Dublin. Having beaten Ballyboden (Dublin) in the Division 1 semi-final 2-0 to 0-3 they then defeated Davitts (Galway) in the final, with Caroline Mullaney (1-3) and late goals from Trudie Hurley and Ciara Ryan securing 3-03 to 0-02. All our local camogie ladies did themselves and the parish proud, when they beat all the other top teams in the country. This great achievement is a credit to all these ladies & to Liam McGrath & all the team mentors, who have put in tremendous work over the previous months & indeed over the previous few years. Congratulations to everyone involved on a fantastic achievement.

Minor: Ballinahinch Gaels (Ballinahinch and Newport combo) had a good win in the first round over the Silvermines in the North 'B' hurling championship last week.

U12 Hurling: Our U-12's play Templederry in the quarter final on Monday next. Best of luck to everyone involved.

Athletics: Our Local Athletes produced some brilliant performances once again, in the recent Munster Championships in Cork. Patrick Lynch won gold in the U-19 200m sprint & silver in 100m sprint. Conor Lynch was fourth in 200m final & sixth in 100m final. Eimear Lynch also ran brilliantly in the U-23 All-Irelands in Santry recently, finishing fourth in the 400m sprint final. In Munster's, Tom Hennesy won silver in U-18 High Jump, bronze in 4x100m relay & bronze in 4x400 relay. Emma Hennessy won gold in U-15 Long Jump, gold in 4x100m relay & silver in High Jump. Well done to all our local athletes on such high class performances once again.

Lotto: There was no winner of last week's jackpot for €3,900. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 6, 18. Also congratulations to Kenneth Clancy who won €500 in the June Tipperary draw.
