Intermediate:
The hurlers had a great win in the County League final last Saturday
against Golden/Kilfeakle. Playing against the elements in the first
half, Daragh McGrath scored an early goal to help the team, Golden lead
at half-time 0-11 to 1-05. The conditions improved in the second half
and produced some good hurling. A goal from John Foley put Ballinahinch
in front again, and in the final ten minutes Ballinahinch scored six
points to win the game 2-18 to 0-16. Well done to the management and
backroom team and all the players, it is reward for the effort put in
and good preparation for 2016 campaign. Auction:

The first Intermediate title that Ballinahinch won was ten years ago.
In the 2005 county hurling league final Ballinahinch played Aherlow.
Philip Kelly scored an early goal but Aherlow regained the lead shortly
after that and with three minutes left Ballinahinch were trailing by
four points. Points from Ger Griffin and Shane McGrath gave Ballinahinch
some hope and in the last seconds of the game Shane McGrath was fouled
and Ger Griffin stepped up to score a goal from a 21 yard free. The
panel on the day was: Liam Berkery; Dermot Healy, Marcus Ryan, Donnacha
Ryan (Capt); Michael Fitzgerald, Ger Griffin, Noel Fahy; Alan Kelly,
Brnedan Healy; Donnacha McGrath, Shane McGrath, Adrian Kelly; Cathal
Bourke, Philip Kelly, Tommy Kelly. Eoin Ryan, Raphael Ryan, Daniel
Lyons, John Doheny, Michael Lynch, Shane Fitzgerald, William Lynch, Sean
Sheehy. |
