Fr. Gallagher: We held our annual internal club tournament last Saturday in Shallee. Our Fr. Gallagher tournament which is open to all boys and girls in the National school attracted the highest number ever with 48 kids enjoying a fantastic days enjoyment. Divided into 6 teams, the competition was run with 4 rounds in the group stage. Eventually Team Cavan captained by Thea Curtain and managed by John Ryan (B) won a close final against Team Meath captained by Tom Anderson and managed by Ger O’Reilly. The perpetual cup was presented by Shane McGrath with the winning team receiving trophies and the runners up receiving medals. A BBQ was held after the event. Thanks to everyone who helped out as it is definitely a team event with the proceedings going off excellently with so many people involved in the different sectors for the tournament. Winning team was Thea Curtain, Jack Mullaney, Locran Delaney, Darren Gleeson. Evan Kearns, Aine Finn, Roisin Power, Denis Mulcahy. This brings our 8/10/12s season to a close. Thanks to all the coaches who put in such a big effort this year. It is important that we work with this group to ensure we have enough numbers to have our own team in the future.
U16: Newport Gaels drew with Nenagh Eire Óg in the North Semi-final on Monday 16th. They produced a great comeback in the second half to peg Nenagh back. The game then went to extra-time, where the teams still could not be separated 2-14 each. The replay took place last Saturday morning in Templederry this turned out to be another remarkable game. Newport Gaels won on by the narrowest of margins on a score of 4-12 to 2-17. They now play Kilruane in the final next weekend. Check fixtures for details and please support them in the final.
Intermediate: In a very busy day for the club the Intermediate hurlers were in action on Saturday evening in Dundrum looking for a place in the county semi-final. In a disappointing game, we never performed to our best. Lattin Cullen Gaels dominated throughout and won on a score of 2-16 to 1-08. Hard luck to all involved with the team following a huge effort throughout the year.
Lotto: There was no winner of last week's (16th Sept) club jackpot of €6,250 . The numbers drawn were 2, 20, 22, 30. Thank you for your continued support.
