County Final: Hard luck to Bernard Ryan, David Gleeson and Ross Healy and all the rest of the Newport Gaels team and backroom members, they lost out to Moyle Rovers in the County Minor ‘A’ Final in Semple Stadium on a score of 3-14 to 2-14. After a huge effort all year and bringing home a North title, they just fell short for a county title. In what was a unique occasion for the players to play under lights in the Stadium, I’m sure this years games will stand to them all in the future. Fr. Gallagher tournament: Another successful hurling tournament was held last Saturday. Well done to all the players that took part and to everyone who organised the day and were involved with the teams. Handball: Congratulations to Gerry Foley who won his All-Ireland singles final on Sunday in Cashel against Mickey Byrne from Wexford 21/2 21/16. A great achievement for a small club. Also next Saturday Gerry and Eamonn Spillane from Nenagh play their All-Ireland doubles final. The membership open evening takes place this Friday (26th) from 7-9 in Ballinahinch ball alley. €40 per adult, €20 per student, €5 per juvenile and €50 for a family. Intermediate: Our hurler’s lost out to Moycarkey-Borris in the County League semi-final last Saturday in the Ragg. We lead 0-7 to 0-3 half way through the first half, but Moycarkey went in at half-time leading 0-10 to 0-9. In a closely contested second half, we could not regain the lead and lost 0-18 to 1-14. The next game for this team is the North final on the weekend of the 4/5 Oct. All-Ireland: Best of luck to Shane McGrath and all the Tipperary team as they look to win Liam McCarthy next Saturday against Kilkenny.
