All-Ireland: Well done to Shane McGrath and the Tipperary team on qualifying for their third All-Ireland final in a row. A big following went up last Sunday from the club, and even more will be there to see them defend their title on the first Sunday in September. All those looking for tickets for the All-Ireland final please contact Dermot Bourke (061-378158) before Wednesday 24th August. Intermediate: We lost to Clonakenny last Wednesday evening in Templederry in the Quarter final of the County League. In an entertaining hour of hurling we lost 2-18 to 2-15. Having played against the wind in the first-half we were down 0-13 to 1-6 at halftime. A great start to the second half put us two points ahead. We stretched the lead to four points before Clonakenny came back strongly late in the game to claim victory. The North hurling semi-final against Silvermines has yet to be fixed. The football first round is due to take place on Thursday 25th August in Newport against Ballina. Minor: Newport Gaels lost out to Borrisokane in the last round of the North hurling championship on a score of 1-14 to 3-15. This result means they qualified for the quarter-finals on score difference, where they face Kildangan. They still remain in contention for the football title as well with the North semi-final also against Kildangan. Please go along and support this team in both games, check fixtures for details. Trip to Bray Emmets & Croke Park: Our U-8's & U-12's had an enjoyable day out on Sunday last. They had an early start as we departed from the village at 7:30am. Destination Bray Emmets GAA. We had our choice four different pitches in Emmets grounds, including a full sized all weather GAA pitch. Their facilities were fantastic, as was their hospitality. After our games, we headed for Croke park, where we enjoyed both the minor match & the senior match. We arrived back in the village at about 9:45pm. Everyone had a great day out & were very well behaved throughout the entire day. Thanks to all the parents & to everyone involved in the organisation, prior to & throughout the day. A great day was had by all. Community Games (Swimming): Congratulations to Blathnaid Ryan on her performance in the All-Ireland's on Sunday last. Blathnaid represented the County against all the other top swimmers in Ireland. Well done Blathnaid. Athletics: Congratulations to Patrick Lynch, who recently competed in the Senior All-Ireland 200m sprint finals in Santry, Dublin. Patrick ran a time just over 23sec's. This race was won by David Gillick, who is one of Irelands best ever sprinters, in a time just over 20 sec's, which was an Olympic qualifying time. This was a great experience for Patrick, as he was one of the youngest competitors in the race. Well done & congratulations again to Patrick Lotto: There was no winner of last week's lotto. Numbers drawn were 5, 9, 13, 14. This weeks jackpot was €5,200, tickets are available throughout the parish. |
