Feile Peil: Cappawhite was the venue for the Feile Peil semi-finals and final. Newport Gaels took on Clonmel Commercials in the first semi-final. While the south boys slotted over two quick points the action reversed to the Commercial goal mouth where Newport showed their attacking tenacity which produced the opening goal of the game, quickly followed by a point. From the kick out they grabbed possession and made another attack which resulted in the awarding of a penalty which produced their second goal. Keelan Floyd commanded a powerful presence in most of the attacks. Newport added another point from a free, which was responded to immediately by a Commercials point to put the score reading 1-2 to 0-3 in favour of the north champions. Another point by Floyd from a free extended the Newport lead to six points with five minutes remaining in the opening period. Newport got going and another attack was made on the Commercial defines and Keelan Floyd had the net shaking for his sides third goal. On the eighteenth minute Peters commanded his quarters and the Newport net was vibrating for Commercials first goal. Two minutes later the same net was moving again as Commercials got their second goal and the games fifth to put the interval score Newport 3-3 Clonmel Commercials 2-3. When proceedings recommenced Commercials got the dream start with goal in the first twenty seconds quickly followed by a point courtesy of Kyle Peters. Newport failed to impress with the quality they expressed in the opening period. However on the tenth minute they stormed the Commercials goal and but for Aidan Tobin the net would have shaken. Moments later Newport got their first point and added another on the twelfth minute mark which was to prove to be their last contribution to the scoreboard. On the other side Jamie Ahearne slotted points from frees in Commercials favour. So despite Newport's low scoring performance in the second period they had also been successful in preventing their opponents opening a big margin on them. Indeed they could well have been ahead but for some errors in judgement when some opportunities came their way. Just as the final whistle was sounding Commercials recorded goal number four to qualify for the final on a score of 4-6 to 3-5.
